TUgende project was born in 2014 from the collaboration between a group of 4 young architects based in Milan and the KYDA association, Kawempe Youth Development association, young Ugandan NGO that takes care of the street children of the Kawempe slum in Kampala with the aim of facilitating their reintegration into the community.
In 2014 the main purpose of the association is to have a safe place to accommodate children at night so as to take them off the road. Because of this need the collaboration with TUgende and the project of MyMangoHome, a dormitory for the kids, starts.
Because of economic and management reasons the dormitory will not be built, but the housing emergency is provided by the renovation of some disused school classrooms near the headquarters of the association to convert into a dormitory.
Today TUgende is involved in supporting the Ugandan association both on site in its internal organization, (Clelia, co-founder of TUgende, lives and works in Kampala and she board member of KYDA), and from Italy in the development of projects and in raising funds for the support of the association.
